WE:ARE

Women's Empower & Recovery Experts

Rise : Reclaim : Recover

Well, 23 years down the line, and we are still here, still standing and still thriving, thanks to the passion, dedication, and tenacity of our team and trustees that we are still here today, changing lives one step, day, month, year, and decade at a time.

For those hearing about us for the first time, we are Jacky, Donna, and Kirsty. We believe that the most effective healing comes from rebuilding connections with supportive others.

There is no “quick fix” when it comes to healing after leaving, which is why we offer longer-term opportunities through our programme pathway, alongside a wide range of activities and support.

Leaving is a process, and healing is a process. By walking alongside one another with empathy, understanding, and without judgement or victim-blaming, we witness meaningful and lasting change, transforming not only individual lives, but entire families.

Like the women who attend WE:ARE, we never give up. We continue to move forward.

So, we now invite you to step into the shoes of WE:ARE and discover the incredible work that has taken place over the last year.

About us

WE:ARE – Women’s Empowerment & Recovery Educators – are a Birmingham based charity providing a pathway of programmes for women who have been subjected to Domestic Abuse.

Starting with Pat Craven’s Freedom Programme, which is delivered weekly either on zoom or in person, you can join us whenever you are ready and come along whenever you can, with no pressure to attend every week. We can arrange a chat beforehand to put you at ease, and answer any questions or worries you may have about the programme.

If you are another organisation and would like to learn more about us, feel free to download a copy last year’s annual report.

We believe in a holistic approach, caring for womens’ mind and body.

Over the years, we have had so many collaborations with amazing organisations who have supported our women through exercise programmes, movement workshops, craft sessions and so much more.

If you would like to collaborate with us, please get in touch.

Impact on Women

We are not just committed to supporting the education of women who have experienced Domestic Abuse, but educating professionals too.

We have helped facilitate numerous works of academic research over the years and have been co-authored on papers and book.

Our Other Projects

We believe in a holistic approach, alongside our programmes, we run a regular art group, pamper days, a running group, book group and more…

Survivor Stories

Behind every story is a woman who found the strength to survive, rebuild, and move forward through our programme pathway.

I’m really grateful for the support because it reminded me that we are not alone while rebuilding our lives. It genuinely helped us feel more secure and supported during a challenging period.

I can’t thank Jacky, Donna and Kirsty enough for delivering these sessions with kindness, safety, information, laughter and grounding. Thank you for empowering me with the knowledge and tools to understand what happened, remove the self-blame and gain closure.

The support you have shown and given, even in spirit, I will always carry with me. Thank you for your compassion, you helped me understand and helped me on my path to healing.
