Couch to 5K

Warrior Women’s Couch to 5k

On March 25th, 2026, a quiet revolution began – A group of women standing together, hearts open, feet ready to move, minds determined to heal. This was the start of WE:ARE Warrior Women’s commitment to a couch-to-5k running programme, a journey not just from couch to 5k—but from pain to power, from isolation to sisterhood, from surviving to thriving.

We didn’t rush in. We honoured our pace.

It started with small steps: an exploratory walk and talk through local green spaces where together we remembered OUR bodies are still OURS, and we can do hard things even when we think we can’t or have been told we can’t.

Then, on April 15th, we stepped into the rhythm of movement with the official 9-week Couch to 5k programme. Not because we were athletes. But because we are warriors.

Warriors who chose to reclaim what trauma had tried to take: our sense of safety, our
bodily autonomy, our voice, our strength. Each stride became an act of defiance. Every breath, a reclamation. With every week, we didn’t just train our legs—we calmed our nervous systems, softened hyper-vigilance, and awakened endorphins that reminded us we can feel good again. We ran through parks we may have once feared. We moved as one along canals and reservoirs, no longer afraid, no longer alone. Because together we felt safe. Together we were seen, and together we are unstoppable.

And then came June 7th, 2026: Race Day – Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run.
A day when a group of WONDERFUL women and two brave teenage daughters running beside them—laced up their shoes and crossed a finish line they once never imagined reaching. Not for medals (though they would come). Not for speed. But for proof YES, I CAN.

YES, I DID. YES, I am HEALING.

On June 17th, we celebrate the official end of the programme but the beginning of so much more. Every woman who showed up, whether walking or running, will receive a WE:ARE Warrior Medal, not just for finishing, but for beginning. For showing courage. For choosing themselves. For turning pain into power, one step at a time.
This is more than a running group.
This is a movement.
A declaration that healing is possible.
That every woman has the right to run free, feel strong, and belong.
We run together. We rise together. We heal together.
